Earlier in the summer 4 TBSC sailors, David Clemenson, Graham Davidson-Guild, Richard Howarth and Tom Leckie, set off in 2 RS400’s to take on the challenge of sailing the 77 miles around Anglesey. Gusts of 25+ knots across Holyhead Bay certainly made for some interesting sailing and after a gruelling 6.5 hours both boats reached Beaumaris. Unfortunately a capsize at the entrance to the Menai Straits meant that Tom and Richard had to retire which left David and Graham to carry on. The wind direction changed and the Straits became a tough beat which took 4 hours. 13 3/4 hours later David and Graham arrived back in Trearddur, swearing that they’d never do it again!!!!
After the disappointment of being forced to retire Richard and Tom set sail again in more favourable conditions at the beginning of August and completed the in 11.5 hours.
Over £3,500 was raised for the two charities RNLI and Dental Mavericks. A cheque for £1,750 was presented to the crew of the Trearddur Bay lifeboat at their open day.
A massive thank you to all who supported them.
